Anastasia Novikova
Biography
I am a contemporary artist, was born in Kyiv in 1988 an now live in the Netherlands. Іn addition to artistic practice, I work with orphans as an art therapist. In my work, I deal with two topics in parallel, which often go independently of each other, but sometimes they can overlap. The first is the role of a woman in modern society, her versatility, feminism. From mother to whore, from saint to devil. Opposite qualities and roles combine to reinforce each other as complementary colors. Here I draw a parallel with the duality of the world. I depict duality with chromatic and achromatic contrasts, the difference in materials and textures. Awareness of the second theme came to me along with a traumatic experience. I see this as a driving force for further development. Due to gilding, I show beauty and growth in wounds and cracks. For me, each scar is like an order or a medal for courage and resilience. I make pictures from glass and mirror fragments. The broken and re-glued layer serves as the basis for painting. In my opinion, everything that was broken acquires more value than new precisely due to the traumatic experience.
